On November 7, 2024, over 230 students gathered at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) for the pilot Youth Empowerment Activity Hub (YEAH) program. Organized in partnership with UPSA, the Association of Business Administration Students (ABAS), and the Department of Accounting Students Association (DASA), the event was proudly sponsored by Habelle’s Foundation. Held at the West Wing Conference Hall of the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium, the program provided participants with essential skills to enhance their academic, personal, and professional development.
The day began with an inspiring keynote address by Mr. Yen Sapark, who underscored the importance of preparing youth for the challenges of today’s competitive job market. His remarks highlighted how initiatives like YEAH can serve as catalysts for empowering young people to realize their potential and take charge of their futures.
The program featured three interactive sessions, each tailored to address key areas of development. The first session focused on financial literacy, equipping students with practical knowledge about budgeting and financial management. Participants learned how to categorize expenses, set realistic financial goals, and avoid common mistakes such as underestimating expenses or neglecting to prioritize savings. The session emphasized how effective budgeting can help achieve long-term financial security.
The second session delved into CV writing, offering participants valuable insights into crafting professional and impactful resumes. Students were guided through the core components of a strong CV, including personal details, academic achievements, professional experience, and references. They also received expert tips on making their CVs stand out with unique skills, clean layouts, and tailored content, all essential for navigating today’s competitive job market.
The final session covered organizational skills, particularly time management. Students explored strategies for prioritizing tasks, breaking large projects into manageable steps, and using tools like calendars and to-do lists. The session also addressed common challenges such as procrastination and overcommitment, providing practical solutions to help students balance academic responsibilities with personal goals.
The YEAH program was a resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Habelle’s Foundation, ABAS, and DASA. As a pilot event, it demonstrated the profound impact such initiatives can have on empowering young people to pursue their ambitions with confidence and skill .
